International Training, "Nonviolence in the context of War and Armed
Conflict" |
| July 5 - 21
|
|
Wustrow, Germany
|
The Center for Education and Networking in Nonviolent Action, KURVE-Wustrow was founded in 1980 by a group of men and women involved in Germany's nonviolent peace and justice movements. KURVE Wustrow's main focus is to increase the effectiveness of nonviolent action by providing training for peace activists and networking opportunities among movements to share information, approaches and understandings. The primary objective of our seminars is to transform concern about violent conflicts, ecological destruction and social injustices into conscious, nonviolent action. KURVE Wustrow aims to demonstrate that nonviolence is not passive and does not mean powerlessness. We also explore the relationships of nonviolent social and political action with nonviolent lifestyles and simple living. KURVE Wustrow, working with internationally experienced nonviolence trainers, is holding an international nonviolence training in the English language, specifically designed for those working or planning to work in areas of war or armed conflict. The training starts on 5 July 2002 with dinner and ends on 21 July 2002 with lunch. Participants must commit to attend the whole training. The training is particularly intended for: activists from local peace, human rights and reconciliation groups;
volunteers or persons interested in nonviolent third-party intervention; persons shaping pedagogical approaches for educating populations in crisis areas;
persons working with refugees. |

3rd Wave Feminism International Conference |
| July 23 |
Crossmead Conference Centre,
Exeter, UK |
Keynote Speakers: Germaine Greer and Elaine Showalter
The conference will address the parameters of second wave feminism, and pose the question of a "third wave" in feminist theory and history, capturing a definition of third wave feminism(s) which redirects feminist enquiry beyond the equality/ difference impasse, without acceding to the defeatism implicit in "postfeminism". Are we content with 'feminisms'? Has 'difference' stalled the historical narrative of progress towards 'equality'? Is transgender a feminist issue? How post- is postfeminism?
Panels will include:
· What is Feminism?
· Who's Afraid of Essentialism?
· Third Wave Femininity
· Feminist Politics in the Academy
· Between Materialism and Psychoanalysis
· Historicising the Third Wave
· Cyberfeminism
· Visual Culture
· (un)Popular Feminisms
· Problematising the Second Wave
· Reconstructing the Second Wave
· Consciousness-Raising
· What Happened to the Sisterhood?
· The Maternal Body |
